Non-Construction Volunteer

When people hear Habitat for Humanity, they immediately think of house construction. While this is the main work of Habitat, there are lots of other opportunities to get involved.

Before construction begins there is a lot of planning that goes on.  Partner families must go through a rigorous screening process before they are selected. The Family Selection Committee reviews every application that comes in to ensure the partner family will succeed in homeownership. They then make their recommendations to the Board of Directors.  The Family Selection Committee meets approximately every two months as applications are submitted.

Once a partner family is selected and approved by the Board of Directors, the Family Support Committee appoints a liaison to work with the family during the construction of their home. The liaison will monitor sweat equity hours, make sure the family is attending required training sessions and be available to answer  questions that may come up.

In order for a house to be built, we must have the funds to build it! The Development Committee works on securing the necessary resources, both volunteer and monetary, to build a house. This committee oversees our major fundraising events.

If you enjoy customer service and have a few hours each week, the ReStore could use your help. The ReStore is a re-sale store run by Flagler Habitat for Humanity. We sell donated furniture, building supplies, and household goods, appliances, and other items to the public. All proceeds are used to support the mission of Flagler Habitat for Humanity. All ReStore volunteers must be at least 16 years old.

ReStore Volunteer Shifts:

Volunteers are needed Monday through Saturday from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM.  Half day shifts are available from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM and 12:30 PM to 4:30 PM.

ReStore Volunteer positions/duties:

  • Cashier - cashiers will operate cash register, help customers check out, answer telephones, and assist with general customer service.  Cashier/retail experience helpful, but not required.
  • Merchandise Cleaner/Sorter - will clean, sort, and organize new merchandise as it is donated. Great way to start involvement at Flagler Habitat for Humanity ReStore!
  • Receiving and Loading - assist staff in unloading donations and unloading purchases for customers. Strong back and willingness to have fun required!
  • Sales floor  - volunteers will focus helping customers find right merchandise.  Volunteers also assist with pricing merchandise.

Office Volunteers assist the office staff with tasks such as answering phones, greeting visitors, filing, data entry and other related responsibilities.  A regular commitment of a 2-3 hour shift once a week would be ideal.  Office hours are Monday-Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
